About The Position

The position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with both external and internal UP rail customers throughout the U.S. and Mexico, including the handling of logistics, accounting, and other customer related issues. The position requires a high level of strategic thinking, market knowledge, trading acumen and employee development. The position will also take an active role in developing ADM’s talent pool as they rotate through ADM Des Moines commercial office.

Requirements

  • University degree in agriculture or business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting), supplemented with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in commodity merchandising / trading / rail logistics.
  • Demonstrated capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment.
  • Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the domestic trade.
  • Proven ability to manage effectively within a team based work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in all aspects of marketing within the regional truck, rail, vendors and customers
  • Develops key communication links within ADM to ensure optimal use of ADM facilities and market access, an understanding and awareness of market requirements and facilitate the effectiveness of ADM assets
  • Able to prepare and analyze basic profit and loss and other divisional reports
  • Strategically seeks out new business that would profitably enhance company assets
  • Builds & maintains relationships with a wide range of customers, including premium and volume accounts
  • Understands customer requirements in order to collaborate and add value to both companies
  • Is able to prepare & present reports to management detailing customer issues and opportunities
  • Maintains a clear customer account list and provides detailed background information in files
  • Handles all accounting related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service

  • Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
