Systems (MEP) Superintendent

Clark Construction Group, LLCCharlotte, NC
Onsite

About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled MEP Superintendent to oversee, coordinate, and execute the field installation of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) systems on major commercial construction projects. Operating as a critical onsite trade leader, you will be responsible for day-to-day coordination between trade subcontractors, ensuring work is installed safely, adheres strictly to project blueprints, stays on track with the schedule, and passes all required quality checks. In this role, you will report directly to the Senior Superintendent or Project Executive, providing vital field-level oversights to manage subcontractor pacing, track materials, and actively resolve constructability clashes in real time before they impact project timelines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4–7 years of construction field supervision or assistant superintendent experience specifically focused on commercial MEP/FP systems.
  • Strong foundations via a recognized trade apprenticeship/union background, or a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Clear operational knowledge of standard commercial building mechanical (HVAC/BAS), electrical distribution, plumbing layouts, and life safety system integration.
  • Hands-on comfort utilizing project management applications and field viewing tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Build).
  • Active OSHA 30-hour certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct daily MEP subcontractor field crews, ensuring clear alignment on daily production targets, sequencing, and spatial constraints.
  • Review and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and approved shop drawings to verify field installations match engineering intents.
  • Utilize 3D BIM models (via Navisworks/Procore) directly in the field to guide layout, handle installation sequencing, and resolve localized trades routing conflicts.
  • Develop and execute short-term (2-to-4 week) look-ahead schedules for MEP operations to keep trades moving predictably.
  • Track deliveries of long-lead MEP equipment (Air Handlers, Switchgears, Pumps) to ensure staging, rigging, and placement occur seamlessly.
  • Assist in coordinating utility company inspections, localized building shut-downs, and final utility service tie-ins.
  • Perform continuous inspections of installations (ductwork routing, pipe grading, conduit layouts) to proactively catch deficiencies before dry-walling or concealment.
  • Assist the commissioning team with functional pre-testing, equipment start-ups, and building system operational checks.
  • Document and manage field punch-list assignments for MEP trades to achieve timely substantial completion.
  • Maintain and enforce jobsite safety standards across all MEP crews, keeping active tabs on lock-out/tag-out procedures, scaffolding safety, and hot work permits.
  • Ensure all field work complies with general building standards and regional codes (NEC, IMC, IPC, NFPA).
