About The Position

Austin Commercial is seeking an MEP Superintendent II for a large project in Fort Worth, TX. Austin Commercial is a leading construction firm that is 100% employee-owned, committed to safety, service, and integrity. This role involves overseeing mechanical and electrical systems throughout the construction process, from initial design review to project close-out.

Requirements

  • B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience
  • 8+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory and MEP experience
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment)
  • Proficient with reading plans and specs
  • Ability to build and manage high performing teams

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the complexity of mechanical/electrical design, estimates construction costs and maintenance, and ensures constructability and code compliance.
  • Determines project scope, materials, and manpower requirements for each construction phase.
  • Serves as a technical resource in meetings with owners and architects, discussing mechanical/electrical systems and potential difficulties.
  • Attends weekly meetings with owners, architects, and subcontractors to outline work, discuss phasing, and address scheduling and quality issues.
  • Ensures timely submission and completeness of mechanical/electrical shop drawings, coordinating between subcontractors to reduce design errors.
  • Checks mechanical and plumbing shop drawings for routes, dimensions, and quality of work, and inspects underground piping and equipment installation.
  • Checks electrical shop drawings for raceways, switchgear layout, and equipment placement, performing detailed inspections and meeting with city electrical inspectors.
  • Plans daily and weekly craft activities, providing detailed technical instructions and resolving ambiguities in plans.
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance in resolving construction problems.
  • Assists the Project Manager in estimating change orders.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and Local Laws, ordinances, and codes, and assumes responsibility for the health and safety of employee-owners.
  • Inspects all field construction work in progress, ensuring high-quality workmanship and following up on deficiencies.
  • Checks sheet metal shop drawings for code compliance and ceiling space allotments, coordinating diffusers and checking fire dampers.
  • Inspects insulation installation, vapor barriers, and heat tracing for piping.
  • Coordinates with city fire department inspectors, reviews fire sprinkler system shop drawings, and inspects work in progress.
  • Inspects and coordinates the installation of life safety systems.
  • Reviews change orders for code compliance, impact on other systems, and cost reasonableness, resolving technical problems with the architect.
  • Reviews subcontractor pay requests for propriety and timeliness, resolving payment issues.
  • Works with MEP Coordinators, providing technical guidance and training, and accompanying them in meetings.
  • Acts as a liaison between owners, architects, general contractors, and associated disciplines.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate daily job diaries.
  • Performs project close-out tasks, including punch lists.
