About The Position

Shriners Children's Chicago is seeking a full-time Mentored Scientist to join their Clinical Research team. This facility provides specialized care for pediatric orthopedic, bone and joint conditions, rare diseases, spine and scoliosis care, plastic surgery, cleft lip and palate care, comprehensive rehabilitation, and spinal cord injuries. This is a three-year grant-funded position.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in related field required
  • Knowledge of: Data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of: Transgenic animal management
  • Knowledge of: Statistics Cellular and molecular biology
  • Knowledge of: Computer programs, spreadsheets, graphics programs, and word processing
  • Ability to: Communicate effectively in public
  • Ability to: Collaborate effectively with investigators
  • Ability to: Direct and supervise in accordance with the PI laboratory personnel
  • Ability to: Effectively analyze and manage program budget
  • Ability to: Employ writing skills to assist in developing grants
  • Ability to: Assist with the planning of new laboratory operations and long-range development

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the PI, assist in designing experiments.
  • Assist in the development of experimental protocols and techniques.
  • Develop appropriate hypotheses and methodologies for the research.
  • Assist with the education and supervision of surgical residents and other laboratory personnel.
  • Develop skills to obtain third-party funding for research initiatives (i.e. NIH).
  • Assist with data management and development of data for presentation and publication.
  • Other duties as assigned.
