About The Position

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is seeking a Mentor to assist faculty in designing, creating, and maintaining technology-enhanced tools and resources for classrooms. This role involves creating presentations, web pages, managing courses in Blackboard and WordPress, developing documents, incorporating multimedia, and assisting with library and internet research. The Mentor will also support the ePortfolio studio, help students develop their ePortfolios, and assist ePortfolio consultants during studio hours and workshops. Additionally, the role requires troubleshooting technology-related problems, creating learning tutorials, providing one-on-one training, developing new technology skills, assisting professors with technology-related surveys, and mentoring faculty and students through technology-based information.

Requirements

  • Must be a current LaGuardia student through Spring 2026.
  • Have completed a minimum of 9 credits and have a GPA of 3.0.
  • Must demonstrate proof of technology skill either through an advanced level Portfolio or demonstrate knowledge of Windows operating system and MS Office
  • Have a willingness to learn a variety of software programs.
  • ePortfilio, blackboard, design, Web 2.0 technologies and HTML/CSS coding
  • Must be responsible, mature, possess good communication and listening skills, good interpersonal skills, and maintain good attendance as well as punctuality
  • Have a desire to help others learn

Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty in designing, creating and maintaining technology-enhanced tools and resources for classrooms, such as: PowerPoint presentations
  • Creating web pages with Dreamweaver
  • Managing courses in Blackboard and WordPress
  • Creating documents
  • Incorporating images and sound into learning resources
  • Assist in the development of ePortfolios
  • Develop multimedia projects
  • Assist with library database and Internet searches
  • Mentors assist in the ePortfolio studio, helping students to develop their ePortfolios
  • Assist ePortfolio consultants and SSMs during FYS studio hours and workshops
  • Use available resources to get help in solving technology-related problems/questions (e.g. textbooks, help menus, tutorials, Internet, other STMs, technology experts, instructors and CTL staff)
  • Create learning tutorials as needed
  • Troubleshoot application issues and Internet search problems
  • Provide one-on-one training to faculty and students in various technology tools
  • Develop new knowledge and skills using technology
  • Assist professors with technology-related surveys
  • Mentor faculty and students through providing technology-based information
  • Make suggestions when appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
