Requirements

  • Meet the definition of a mental health professional as defined in Minnesota Statutes
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a master’s degree in a mental health related field.
  • Must be licensed within the State of Minnesota as a psychologist (LP), marriage and family therapist (LMFT), professional clinical counselor (LPCC), or clinical social worker (LCSW).
  • At least 1 year of freedom from problematic substances.
  • Must be comfortable working with people with life-controlling challenges, including mental health and addiction.
  • Must have or obtain 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems training within six months of hire.
  • Ability to provide individual and group counseling including crisis intervention.
  • Must document competence in screening for and working with clients with mental health problems, through education, training, and experience.
  • Must be licensed or exempt from licensure under Minnesota Statutes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of implications of Minnesota Statutes.
  • Must be able to meet specific staff requirements outlined in Minnesota Statutes 245G.11 and 245I.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to ensure and/or deliver and properly document the provision of mental health services including standardized mental health screening, diagnostic assessment, individualized treatment plan, individual, group and family therapy, mental health case management, progress notes, discharge summary at termination of services, and the maintenance of client records in accordance with Minnesota Statutes for Mental Health (245I MN Statutes) and MnTC policy.
  • Ensure that clients receive a standardized mental health screening.
  • Complete a diagnostic assessment (DA) within ten days of admission or immediately after 1st session whichever comes first; complete other diagnostics as indicated by the DA or required by third party payers.
  • Complete multidisciplinary case reviews that include a monthly review for each client; document monthly reviews for each client in a progress note and per documentation requirements.
  • Provide case consultation and clinical supervision to licensing candidates and interns.
  • Ensure that family education is offered that addresses mental health and substance use disorders and the interaction between the two.
  • Integrate diagnostic assessment into the Individual Treatment Plan which is subject to amendment until services to the client are terminated. The individual treatment plan must include treatment goals, specific methods to be used to address identified problems, resources to which the client is being referred, and client goals. Complete update of treatment plan before 2nd session.
  • Enter clinical charting after each treatment service. The progress notes must reference the individual treatment plan and link the specific service provided with a problem identified in the treatment plan.
  • Assist the completion of a discharge summary within five days of the client’s termination of services.
  • Ensure the content and format of client records be uniform and entries in each case are signed and dated.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, client education strategies to avoid inappropriate chemical use and health problems related to chemical use, transition services, and services to address issues related to co-occurring mental illness.
  • Lead client education lecture classes as required.
  • Participate in the weekly treatment team meetings to review and update client progress notes.
  • Coordinate with the case manager regarding the treatment plan.
  • Coordinate mental health services with other service providers as necessary to the treatment plan.
  • Receive 8 hours of co-occurring disorder training annually.
  • Complete continuing education courses in current treatment concepts and methods as required by the State of Minnesota, and the licensing board, to maintain mental health license.
  • Attend required in-house training and staff meetings.
  • Maintain credentialing with the State of Minnesota and health plans.
  • Meet billable hours requirements as required by Supervisor; follow billing procedures.
  • Insure that all necessary releases, Physician Communication Form, Notice of Privacy Practices form and the Financial Agreement are current (re-signed each year).
