About The Position

Samaritan Daytop Village is a nationally recognized comprehensive Health and Human Services Agency with over 60 programs across New York City and the greater New York Area, serving over 33,000 New Yorkers annually. The Mental Health Therapist role is crucial in providing counseling and casework services to individuals facing mental illnesses and/or substance abuse problems. This position involves assessing patient mental status, developing treatment plans, and making referrals to appropriate services.

Requirements

  • NYSED LMSW or LMHC licensure OR other QHP (Qualified Health Professional) status such as MSW-Limited Permit with ability to obtain within 90 days of hire and licensure within one year of hire or MHC-Limited Permit with ability to obtain within 90 days of hire for designated programs/divisions.
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.
  • At least One-Two years demonstrated clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment for designated programs based on needs of the facility.
  • In depth knowledge of NYC diverse network of medical and behavioral health care organizations, including substance use disorders, treatment services, education and employment services, and non-traditional community support groups.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Works with patients and their families to determine goals for treatment.
  • Solicits family information, observations and concerns.
  • Interviews, observes and develops treatment plans for patients.
  • Implements goals, policies and activities designed to meet program objectives.
  • Conducts individual and group therapy sessions for patients with mental illness, emotional and substance abuse problems.
  • May assess incoming clients and eventually help prepare them for transitioning home.
  • Provides referrals to appropriate mental health resources.
  • Monitors patient’s treatment progress and keeps track of their mental status.
  • Consults with other mental health professionals to provide effective courses of treatment.
  • Provides crisis intervention services to patients who are in danger to themselves and others.
  • Keeps accurate records of patient records and treatment provided.
  • Evaluates and utilizes community mental health resources as needed.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in field.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
