About The Position

Under general direction and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, this role conducts individual, family, and group therapy for children and adolescents on an acute inpatient unit. The therapist works closely and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team and subscribes to the Departmental goals of creating an equitable and culturally competent environment by treating patients, families, and co-workers in a respectful manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences. The position includes some weekends and early evenings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling required.
  • Experience working in clinical setting with children / adolescents and families, including group therapy required.
  • Candidates must be able to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Requires NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) or limited permit eligible.
  • If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 36 months to obtain the NYS license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with acute services (inpatient, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, crisis services) strongly preferred.
  • Maintains professional CEU requirements by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a primary therapist to patients on the Rapid Stabilization Pathway, providing an intensive therapeutic intervention to patients and families in a 3-4-day admission.
  • This may include beginning evaluation / treatment with patients while they are still in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program.
  • Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care.
  • Provides group therapy to all patients on the unit.
  • Documents treatment in patients’ electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations.
  • Meets minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director.
  • Collaborates with other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities.
  • Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated.
  • Assesses successful completion of therapeutic goals and coordinates to plan discharges accordingly.
  • Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University.
  • Other duties as assigned
