About The Position

A leading children's behavioral health organization is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join their team at an inpatient psychiatric facility serving children and adolescents ages 5–18. This facility provides short-term acute psychiatric care to children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises. Patients may present with a variety of behavioral and psychiatric needs, including depression, aggression, self-injurious behaviors, psychosis, autism spectrum disorders, suicidal behaviors, and substance-related concerns. The Mental Health Technician plays an important role in providing a safe, structured, and supportive environment while helping patients work toward stabilization and successful transition back to their communities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and at least 2 years of direct care experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college with at least 12 college credits in a human services-related discipline (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Health, Recreation, Pastoral Counseling, Political Science)
  • Candidates will need to provide original/official education documentation, such as a transcript or diploma, along with required identification documents. Photos or photocopies of education documents are not accepted.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience working with youth
  • Experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral health needs
  • Mental health or psychiatric experience
  • Residential or inpatient behavioral health experience
  • Experience with crisis intervention or behavioral de-escalation
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing significant emotional or behavioral challenges

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, supervision, and support to children and adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric setting
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for patients
  • Monitor patient behavior and communicate observations to the treatment team
  • Assist with daily routines, activities, and therapeutic programming
  • Support patients in developing and practicing appropriate coping and behavioral skills
  • Reinforce treatment plans and behavioral expectations
  • Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed
  • Build positive, professional relationships with patients while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Document and communicate relevant patient behaviors, interactions, and progress
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, teachers, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other members of the treatment team
  • Support trauma-informed care and individualized treatment approaches
