About The Position

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is currently looking for a Mental Health Technician to join their team. This is a PRN position. The Mental Health Technician will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and assistance with activities of daily living. The Mental Health Technician must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults. The role involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, ensuring their safety and well-being, and supporting the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent is required.
  • Zero- one (0-1) year of experience required.
  • Successful completion Management Aggressive Behavior Training (HWC) before on the unit orientation and prior to assisting with restraining procedures.
  • Successful certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association for CPR prior to taking an independent patient assignment.
  • PRN Employees are required to work a minimum of 36 hours per month.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related experience preferred.
  • A knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts 15-minute rounds on patients per policy.
  • Assist patients who are prone to fall when walking or sitting.
  • Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required.
  • Supports facility service excellence standards.
  • Maintains desirable pattern of attendance, punctuality, and productivity.
  • Provides assistance in implementing patients’ treatment plans by; (a) monitoring patients’ progress; (b) communicating information regarding patients’ behavior to other members of treatment team; (c) maintains communication with patient, family members and referral sources in patient’s interest; (d) facilitates or co-facilitates didactic groups, community meetings, or drug or alcohol education groups; (e) encouraging and facilitating patients’ participation in therapeutic activities; (f) supervising patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment; (g) providing input during shift report.
