About The Position

North Shore Medical Center is a 24-hour healthcare facility providing continuous nursing, medical, and other health and social services under the supervision of a directed care physician and RN. Requirements

  • High School diploma is required.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Drug Test screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Florida Behavioral Health Technician Certification preferred.
  • CPI Certification.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Willing to obtain CPI Certification within 90 days.
  • 1 year of experience working in a psychiatric unit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the RN in patient care and gathering information for the patient treatment and care plan.
  • Ensuring patient and family safety while offering support and comfort.
  • Assisting in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment.
  • Performing patient care observations and duties as directed by the RN and hospital policies.
  • Managing patient activities and providing patient education.
  • Assisting with maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
  • Supervising patient activities and responding/intervening per protocol.
  • Utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques and coping strategies.
  • Identifying behaviors that may require seclusion, restraint, or other clinical intervention and escalating to the primary nurse or nurse leader.
  • Escorting and monitoring patients during fresh air breaks.
  • Performing generalized patient care tasks including vital signs, feeding, mobility, personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, bed making/linen changes, and assisting the healthcare team with supplies and equipment.
  • Assisting in the preparation of patient treatment areas between patient use.
  • Performing ongoing observations of patients and documenting their status in the electronic observation record.
  • Reporting unusual findings to the primary nurse or nurse leader.
  • Maintaining accurate precautionary monitoring (suicidal, violence, and elopement) every 15 minutes, and reporting/recording patient's physical and emotional whereabouts, activity, and behavior.
  • Monitoring patients in recreational therapies, psychotherapy, and education programs, and documenting significant behaviors.
  • Engaging patients in daily activities, including group facilitation.
  • Maintaining the storage closet and ensuring therapeutic activity materials are available.
  • Following up on patient care responsibilities and assignments from previous shifts and reporting incomplete assignments.
  • Demonstrating behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performing all other related job duties as assigned.
