This position assists in the therapeutic conduction of individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapies for adolescents. The Mental Health Technician provides patient care to adolescents with acute and chronic mental health problems including depression, suicide ideation, bereavement, psychotic episodes, family conflicts, substance abuse or dependence, and trauma resulting from violence or abuses of emotional, physical, or sexual nature. The role involves coordinating service provision to patients and consulting with professional colleagues to promote optimal patient care, including appropriate referrals for psychiatric evaluation and/or medication management. The technician participates in therapy sessions, works closely with the treatment team in formulating care plans, and observes patients closely, evaluating and recording significant behavior and reaction patterns. Therapeutic communication skills are utilized in all interactions, and the role models de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques. Under the Nurse's directives, the technician provides direct supervision and behavioral health interventions in the inpatient adolescent care unit, maintains appropriate records, and assists patients with daily activities, milieu management, and leading group activities. When appropriate and delegated, the technician may provide clinical supervision and training to other peer mental health technicians and participates in consultations with FDIHB personnel, health professionals, and resource agencies to assist patients. The role may also involve educational, preventive, or advocacy efforts in the community. Other duties as assigned.
