About The Position

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) role at Beacon Behavioral Health involves supporting and implementing the organization's mission, vision, and core values, as well as upholding exceptional customer service standards. This position requires assisting in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment by monitoring patient compliance with program rules, providing security, and managing patients exhibiting unacceptable behavior. The MHT will document patient departures, significant occurrences, observed behaviors, vital signs, and other required observations. They will also recognize and assist with therapeutic interventions related to group contagion, support clinicians with patient care tasks, and perform clerical duties for various departments. The role demands flexibility, problem-solving skills, efficiency, and the ability to manage high-stress and high-volume situations. Punctuality, adherence to attendance policies, and a positive attitude are essential. The position requires good physical and mental health, empathy, respect for others, and a high sense of integrity. The MHT must be able to work under supervision, follow instructions, and meet requirements for CPR and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB). Effective English communication is necessary, and the ability to stand for long intervals and participate in physical restraint of patients is required.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. is required.
  • Ability to satisfy requirements for Healthcare Provider CPR.
  • Ability to satisfy requirements for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB).
  • Ability to speak English and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for long intervals.
  • Must have dexterity to participate in physical restraint of patients when necessary.
  • Ability to work under close supervision with distractions/demanding patients and follow both verbal and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in a mental health care setting preferred (preferably as a Mental Health Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant).
  • Appropriate education in a mental health related field might be substituted for experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support and implement the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Beacon Behavioral Health.

  • Demonstrate teamwork by carrying out routine and assigned tasks within the Beacon program.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu by monitoring compliance with program rules, providing assistance with security and supportive manpower by assisting in control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior.
  • Document patient’s departure from program (i.e. transportation to and from program) and significant occurrences, observed behavior, vital signs, and observation findings on assigned patients and as required by the professional nurse.
  • Recognize the impact of group contagion by behavior and demonstrate assistance with therapeutic interventions.
  • Assist clinician with patient care tasks and therapist with therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform clerical duties related to support of Health Information Management, Intake, Administrative Assistant, Clinic Manager and Administrator.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.
  • Display flexibility and willingness to help others, identify and offer solutions to problems, demonstrate vision, foresight, and customer sensitivity.
  • Perform job with efficiency necessary to complete assignments within established time restraints and procedural guidelines.
  • Organize and prioritize work while being cost-effective and conserving resources.
