Mental Health Technician (MHT) - PRN Rotating | Voyages Sugar Land
About The Position
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) is responsible for observing and recording patient information pertinent to the treatment plan, welcoming new patients through specific admission protocols, and assisting with the patient discharge process. The role involves maintaining direct patient observation, leading patient education, community, goal, and activity groups, and assisting nursing staff by taking vital signs and helping patients perform ADL's. Due to the high visibility and significant patient interaction, this position is frequently the first responder to a variety of patient situations, including codes, behavioral outbursts, attempts to introduce contraband, and medical issues. The MHT adjusts their therapeutic approach to acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations. This role does not assume independent responsibility for patient care and job duties are accomplished in a manner consistent with the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Voyages Behavioral Health.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Current BLS certification is required
- Crisis management certification per hospital policy and standards required
Nice To Haves
- Certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) where required by state where the hospital resides preferred
- A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit is preferred
