About The Position
Wellfound Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking compassionate and experienced Mental Health Techs for its Night Shift position. This role involves working three, twelve-hour shifts per week (7 pm - 7:30 am) with rotating weekends, requiring availability on all days of the week. The hospital is a 120-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Tacoma, Washington, accredited by the Department of Health and Joint Commission, providing care to both voluntary and involuntary patients. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) is a crucial part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary treatment team, responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the MHT assists with basic patient care and recovery needs, providing and documenting interventions through various modalities tailored to individual patient needs. This includes leading group and individual interactions with patients in adherence to treatment guidelines and agency policies.
Requirements
- High school or equivalent education
- Certified Nursing Assistant OR Nursing Assistant Registration, or pending to start
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Food Handler’s Permit through Washington State
- One (1) year of direct patient care experience in mental health
Responsibilities
- Follow direction and assignments of the Registered Nurse
- Perform patient checks, CO / SP rounds, 1:1 etc.
- Take vital signs (Daily Weights/Input and output) and enter into Epic
- Alert RN of anything abnormal
- Conduct patient safety searches (per routine and prn) and room searches
- Monitor Meals and collect flatware
- Assist with patient hygiene when required
- Clean washer, dryer, phones and tables
- Ensure detailed hand off to include special precautions to oncoming shift
- Check security of doors to offices, seclusion room and closest are locked (night tech)
- Check dryer screen and remove lint after each load of laundry; maintain washer/dryer log
- Ensure all sharp items used at shower time are checked back in
- Communicate respectfully with patients and family members, utilizing motivational interviewing
- Respect all diversity including cultural
- Provide supportive interactions per patient needs
- Perform assigned groups and document
- Notify nurse of any change in patient presentation, behavior or condition
