Mental Health Tech Psych Unit
About The Position
The Mental Health Tech, also known as Patient Care Tech (PCT), C.N.A, or M.A. (Medical Assistant), works within the 1 East Psych unit at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. This role is responsible for direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, focusing on age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. The PCT helps maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment for patients and their families, adhering to relationship-based care concepts. The 1 East unit is a locked, secured 36-bed unit serving patients aged 18 through older adults who present with life-threatening or severely incapacitating symptoms and potential harm to self or others. Patients are admitted through the Psychiatric Access department in the Emergency Department, with admissions occurring via face-to-face assessments, transfers, or direct admissions from other locations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) OR successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
- Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
- Every Other Weekend and Holiday required for Full-time and Part-time team members.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in completing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding/menu selection.
- Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
- Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
- Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and conducive patient care environment.
