Mental Health Tech Psych Unit
About The Position
The Mental Health Tech, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being, including concepts of relationship-based care. This role is on a locked, secured unit serving patients 18 through older adult, with criteria including life-threatening and/or severely incapacitating symptoms and potential harm to self or others. Patients are admitted through the Psychiatric Access department in the Emergency Department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor, with admissions occurring via face-to-face assessments, transfers, or direct admissions from other locations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
- Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in completing ADLs including: bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding and menu selection.
- Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
- Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
- Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
