About The Position

This position works under supervision and is responsible for collecting patient data, performing basic hygiene care, assisting in facilitating treatment milieu, and ensuring patient safety. The Mental Health Tech will also conduct groups, document patient information, and welcome new patients and their families. This role is security-sensitive and subject to criminal history record information checks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required Upon Hire
  • CRISIS PREVENTION INSTITUT CER (CPI) within 180 Days

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of acute care inpatient hospital experience
  • Certified Nurses Aide certification with training from an accredited training program
  • Training from an accredited Mental Health Technician program
  • Completed first semester of Nursing Clinicals from an accredited program

Responsibilities

  • Collects data including intake and output, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
  • Performs skin assessments and immediately reports values outside normal parameters to the nurse.
  • Demonstrates awareness of age-specific considerations in gathering assessments.
  • Performs sterile procedures in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assists in facilitating treatment milieu.
  • Participates in codes to protect the patient from harming self or others.
  • Reports any changes in a patient's condition or behavior immediately to the nurse.
  • Seeks assistance and guidance as needed to ensure safe, high-quality, and effective patient care.
  • Monitors patient sharps and valuables and labels/handles appropriately.
  • Conducts walking/exercise and community groups.
  • Responds to patient requests for assistance in a respectful, positive, and timely manner.
  • Performs basic hygiene care in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Checks skin carefully during baths and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
  • Makes frequent patient rounds for comfort, positioning, and toileting/hygiene care.
  • Documents patient information accurately and in the appropriate place in a timely manner.
  • Transfers and transports patients safely and in accordance with policies and procedures, with concern for age-specific considerations.
  • Welcomes new patients/families, knocks before entering, smiles, introduces self, and wears a name tag.
  • Immediately alerts the nurse if a patient/family member seems unhappy and the issue has not been resolved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
