About The Position

Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health Services, part of Aiken Regional Medical Centers, provides individualized treatment for people experiencing emotional and behavioral disorders and alcohol or substance use disorders. Mental Health Technicians provide direct patient care and support patients’ psychosocial needs while performing non-nursing functions. They work under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and contribute to an environment focused on the organization’s mission, vision, and values. This is a full-time night position with 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification.
• Successfully complete Handle with Care training within 30 days of hire.
• Maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license for patient transport, where applicable.
• Meet at least one of the following: current South Carolina CNA certification; current Medical Assistant certification; current EMT certification; a passing grade in a Fundamentals of Nursing course while maintaining current enrollment in a nursing program; or at least one year of MHT or behavioral health technician experience.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred experience: one year of full-time or three years of part-time work in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Accurately and promptly collect patient data.
• Recognize changes or variances in a patient’s condition and report them promptly, including abnormal findings.
• Follow the plan of care and recommend changes to address patients’ ongoing needs.
• Provide care related to patients’ needs and well-being.
• Participate in shift reports as a team member to help meet each patient’s individual needs.
• Complete work assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Implement assigned interventions from the plan of care.
• Document data collection, tasks performed, and patient responses accurately and appropriately each shift.
• Demonstrate appropriate restraint use and Handle with Care techniques.
