About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family wellbeing, incorporating concepts of relationship-based care. The 1 East unit is a locked, 36-bed secured unit serving patients aged 18 through older adult. Services criteria include the presence of life-threatening and/or severely incapacitating symptoms, and a potential for harm to self or others is considered serious. Patients are admitted through the Psychiatric Access department in the Emergency Department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA). In most cases, face-to-face assessments will be required, and in other cases, transfers or direct admissions from other locations may occur.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
• Every Other Weekend and Holiday required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients in completing ADLs including: bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding and menu selection.
• Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
• Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
• Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and conducive patient care environment.
