Mental Health Tech Psych Unit
About The Position
The Mental Health Tech (PCT, C.N.A., and M.A.) on the 1 East Psych unit at Trinity Health Ann Arbor is responsible for direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. This role involves considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs, and maintaining a clean, safe, and conducive patient care environment. The unit is a locked, secured 36-bed facility serving patients aged 18 through older adults who present with life-threatening or severely incapacitating symptoms and potential harm to self or others. Patients are admitted through the Psychiatric Access department in the Emergency Department, with admissions occurring via face-to-face assessments, transfers, or direct admissions from other locations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) OR successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
- Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
- Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family wellbeing.
- Assist patients in completing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding/menu selection.
- Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
- Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
- Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
- Perform face-to-face assessments for patient admissions.
- Work every other weekend and holiday as required for Full-time and Part-time team members.
