About The Position

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will actively support clients within mental health programs using a trauma informed approach. You will provide person centred support to clients aimed at achieving positive outcomes and skill development whilst promoting independence, choice and decision making. The successful candidate will have a Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent experience as well as experience working with people who have complex needs including mental health challenges. This is a permanent part time opportunity of 70 hours per fortnight consisting of active night shifts (10pm to 8am) as follows: Week 1: Monday and Sunday Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to positively engage, interact and work with people who have complex needs including a psychosocial disability
  • Sensitivity to work with people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and a willingness to learn and work in culturally appropriate approaches.
  • Computer literacy and administration skills
  • Current driver’s license
  • Current First Aid & CPR certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health or similar desirable
  • equivalent experience as well as experience working with people who have complex needs including mental health challenges

Responsibilities

  • Increase individuals’ community living skills, independence, personal growth, and development through the provision of active support
  • Encourage and facilitate opportunities for the individuals’ development of social networks and engagement in community activities
  • Engage and develop rapport with individuals to understand their needs and to help them identify challenges and areas for improvement and to develop and implement effective solutions
  • Prompting and encouragement of individuals in relation to activities of daily living, at times including direct provision of personal care
  • Encourage and support individuals to develop their goals and support plans in partnership with Life Without Barriers and their stakeholders
  • Observe individuals’ daily presentation and behaviours and provide feedback to management regarding the effectiveness of the support approach and plans, in achieving the wellbeing and capacity building goals of individuals.
  • Appropriately model to individuals, in terms of dress, language, and behaviours
  • Monitor and maintain high quality progress notes and other documentation in line with NDIS and funding body requirements
  • Use technology as required to complete documentation, access client files and other resources
