About The Position

The primary purpose of the Mental Health Support Specialist is to participate as a member of the mental health team providing care to assigned veteran and non-veteran students under the direct supervision of the Assistant Vice President Student Affairs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of counseling experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with young adults in an educational or training capacity.
  • LPC or LCSW
  • Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission and practices an open-door policy.
  • Has basic proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have a positive attitude and clear communication style (written and verbal).
  • Has basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, and experience working with a college data platform.
  • Possesses a creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to recognize barriers to student success and navigate through them.
  • Ability to coordinate events.
  • Exhibits strong skills in: Organizing, Building relationships, Leadership, Coaching

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides mental health counseling to BCC students using evidence-based modalities.
  • Responds to on campus urgent and emergency mental health situations and provide assessment and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Develops and deliver outreach programs and workshops to students, staff and faculty to enhance awareness and knowledge of mental health issues and resources.
  • Facilitates psychoeducational and support groups on topics such as coping skills, mindfulness, self-care, grief, etc.
  • Establishes on campus support groups.
  • Participates in case consultations with other personal counselors.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of counseling sessions and student progress.
  • Collaborates with community mental health resources to promote student well-being and refer students who require a higher level of care as needed.
  • Performs additional job-related tasks as directed by the supervisor.
