About The Position

The school MSW Practicum Student is an in-training mental health professional working on a degree in social work who assists in providing services related to a person's social, emotional, and life adjustment to school and/or society. The MSW Practicum Student assists in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success.

Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and/or equivalent software.
Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.
Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person learning environments
Knowledge of school safety & security procedures.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

Working with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school (home, school, and community)
Mobilizing family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program.
Assessing students with mental health concerns.
Participating in staff in-service training programs.
Working with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment.
Assisting parents to access programs available to students with special needs.
Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.
Assisting with Family and Student services as designated by grant and supervisor
Help with monitoring and adjusting intervention strategies as needed to effectively address student behavior and promote positive outcomes.
Aid in obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet students' needs.
Helping school districts receive adequate support from social and mental health agencies.
Advocating for new and improved community/school services to meet the needs of students and families.
Helping the system respond effectively to each child's needs.
Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to coordinate support services and ensure a cohesive approach to behavior management.
Consult with parents/guardians to gather information, provide updates on student progress, and collaborate on behavior intervention strategies for use at home and school.
Participate in meetings to discuss student progress, review intervention plans, and make recommendations for adjustments or additional support.
Analyze behavior data to identify trends, evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies, and make data-driven decisions to inform future interventions.
Coordinate with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to showcase school trends and student growth through service data
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities related to behavior intervention, trauma-informed practices, restorative practices and social-emotional learning.
Stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in behavior management and intervention strategies, and share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.

Build and maintain relationships with teachers, administrators, and students’ families with an eye toward working cooperatively to help students meet academic and other goals.
Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms, such as participation with graduation, Back-to-school carnival, parent conferences, and school events.
