About The Position

The Code Blue Nurse Educator develops, coordinates, and implements a variety of medical and behavioral emergency training and drill opportunities for the needs of the Oregon State Hospital. This position coordinates with the other clinical and non-clinical departments to assess their needs and develop the training that is most appropriate for the staff working in those departments under the direction of the Director of The Department. The training developed and delivered will be tailored to the staff population via on-going needs assessment and in collaboration with the various department heads. Education will be provided upon hire and will also be delivered on a cadenced basis for maintenance and continuous improvement to improve outcomes in a medical or behavioral emergency. This position will maintain all emergency medical equipment within the medical emergency carts throughout the hospital and supports all training endeavors of the department, including Code Blue, Safe together, and other initiatives as needed. Code Blue Nurses are expected to function as experts with regard to responding to medical emergencies. Code Blue Nurses are responsible for reviewing Code Blue event responses and identifying opportunities for improvement and training.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unencumbered Oregon Professional Registered Nurse license during the entire length of their employment.
  • Must have a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable driving record in order to operate a state vehicle.
  • Code Blue nurses travel between the Salem and Junction City campuses.

  • Experience developing curriculum and instructional materials including establishing course objectives, researching and incorporating current evidence-based literature, selecting appropriate content and visual aids and preparing course materials.
  • Experience presenting in a classroom setting including conducting classes, leading discussions and lectures, presenting demonstrations with the ability to modify lesson plans and teaching techniques as needed.
  • Experience in leading emergency medical drills and evaluating student responses
  • Experience with the maintenance of emergency medical equipment and supplies in a large hospital setting
