About The Position

This position is responsible for providing mental and health-related social services, victim service referrals, chemical dependency referrals and consultations, on-call crisis intervention, and child welfare supportive services as appropriate to meet the needs of Native American patients. The focus of the position is to work with patients identified as a victim of crime and integrate care between Tribal Victim Services and supporting advocacy programs. The role requires the ability to work with patients who identify as victims of crime and a variable schedule to meet patient and program needs. This position is grant-funded and requires the ability to work with the Indian Community, with sensitivity to the Indian Culture and its needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university that meets the educational requirements for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW), Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC).
  • Associate-level candidates must be actively working toward full licensure and be able to obtain licensure within two years of employment under appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Fully Licensed- Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), and be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
  • California Driver’s License with a safe driving record, DMV record required.
  • Must be insurable by the program’s insurance carrier.
  • If a recovering substance abuser, have maintained a minimum of four years of continued abstinence from mood-altering chemicals.
  • If a recovering substance abuse family member (i.e., spouse, child), a minimum of four years of continued involvement in a recognized support system.
  • Superior skill in working with other professionals such as physicians, psychologists, nurses, lawyers, judges, educators, and other related professionals.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work independently as a professional clinician, using available supervision effectively.
  • Function effectively as a clinician.
  • Provide personal transportation.
  • Work independently when required yet function as a team member with other agency staff.
  • Work on a flexible schedule, which may include early or late shifts, or work on weekends as determined by the Behavior Health Services Director.
  • Share professional knowledge with clinical staff and applying this knowledge to a wide range of complex and difficult cases involving children, adolescents and adults in individual or group counseling services.
  • Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Behavioral health experience with outpatient or inpatient treatment is preferred.
  • Must have or willing to obtain current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross prior to orientation.
  • CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to crisis situations on an “as occurring” basis in the clinical setting, which may be a “face to face” or telephone contact.
  • Participates in the BHS Department “on-call” schedule as assigned.
  • Completes and maintains all client documents in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensures that all required RSBCIHI documentation and consents are completed prior to beginning the treatment process.
  • Completes all clinical charting in the client’s chart/treatment record in a timely manner.
  • Records client response to treatment and progress in a professional manner in the SOAP format.
  • Completes the “Problem List,” “Master Treatment Plan,” and “Mental Health History Form” in a timely manner.
  • Involves client/family in the treatment process and provides appropriate treatment orientation.
  • Provides the client and family members information on treatment concepts, objectives, and treatment goals.
  • Develops the initial treatment plan in conjunction with the client, parent, or guardian.
  • Involves the client, parent or guardian in all periodic updates of the treatment plan.
  • Provides the client, parent or guardian with a clear understanding of confidentiality guidelines.
  • Orients the client and family to the program schedule and RSBCIHI grievance processes when indicated.
  • Encourages clients and their families in the following of medical treatment recommendations.
  • Responsible for referral of client to appropriate provider or outside service provider.
  • Presents client needs to BHS professional clinical staffing for review and referral.
  • Assists clients or families with necessary financial assistance referrals and eligibility determination.
  • Discusses with client and makes appropriate professional and placement referrals in harmony with current BHS guidelines.
  • When the client is involved with Chemical Dependency issues, refers client and/or client’s family to the Chemical Dependency Counselor for assessment and treatment.
  • Assists clients and/or agency and community health care professionals with referral and placement of the client in extended care facilities.
  • Establishes and provides ongoing linkage between the agency and clients with community social resource agencies.
  • Reports all suspected cases of child abuse in a timely manner and actively follows up with the client and/or family.
  • Presents all reported cases to the Child Protection Team.
  • Is a proactive participant in Child Protection Team meetings, presenting and providing input regarding child welfare issues.
  • Proactively involved in Behavioral Health Services prevention programs in the RSBCIHI catchment area communities.
  • Coordinates with appropriate agencies for ongoing services of abused Indian children and their families.
  • Coordinates with appropriate agencies the placement of Indian children needing foster or adoptive care.
  • Provides crisis and individual mental health and chemical dependency/substance abuse counseling to those clients identified as a victim of crime.
  • Prioritizes schedule to accommodate referrals from Tribal Victim Services staff to assist with clients identified as a victim of crime.
  • Provides referrals for appropriate resources (medical, substance use, resources specific for victimization).
  • Meets regularly with Tribal Victim Services staff to discuss and improve upon services provided.
  • Attend trainings that are specific for various types of victimization (domestic violence, sexual assault, Missing & Murdered Indigenous People, etc.).
  • May provide presentations regarding mental health/substance abuse and victimization.
  • Works alongside behavioral health staff to ensure mental health, substance abuse, and victimization referrals are being met.
  • Must be able to complete objectives, reporting required by grant funding.
  • Provides ongoing treatment for the emotional needs of chemically dependent clients and/or their families.
  • Works in conjunction with Chemical Dependency Counselors in providing treatment of the emotional needs of chemically dependent clients.
  • In conjunction with Chemical Dependency Counselors, provides treatment to family members of chemically dependent clients to break the co-dependency cycle and develop a positive family environment.
  • Maintains a positive regard for and a working knowledge of AA/NA/AL-Anon and other 12-step support groups and programs.
  • Actively seeks supervision, using the supervisory process appropriately based on professional needs.
  • Accepts supervisory guidance constructively, using the direction provided to enhance professional skills or employee performance.
  • Complete all required reports in a timely and acceptable manner.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work effectively with minimal monitoring – a “self-starter.”
  • Reinforces the philosophy of RSBCIHI in both professional and clinical areas, including conformance to existing policies regarding personal interests, time and dress codes.
  • Proactively develops and promotes a working “team relationship” in the Behavioral Health Services Department and with other agency staff.
  • Provides in-service training for other Behavioral Health Services staff or RSBCIHI departments as requested.
  • Is proactive in promoting community knowledge of emotional and mental health problems.
  • Conducts workshops and classes individually and in conjunction with other professional staff members relevant to the Indian communities.
  • Assists with site visits by specific individuals or groups for orientation.
  • Willingly accepts and performs as related administrative tasks as additionally assigned.
  • Acceptance of other responsibilities as assigned.
