About The Position

Under the supervision of a Mental Health Leadership Team Member, the Mental Health Provider, Access, will provide mental health services in an integrated health care agency serving UW-Madison students across identities and programs. The role involves direct service, including providing access appointments, risk assessment, service evaluation, brief interventions, and facilitating referrals to community resources. It also includes care management, consultation with staff, assisting students with insurance and other resources, and potentially providing individual, couples, or group therapy. Administrative duties include maintaining accurate documentation, serving on multidisciplinary teams, program development, and collaborating with internal and external partners, all while adhering to agency policies and ethical guidelines.

Requirements

  • 1 or more years in a mental health setting
  • LPC or LMAFT - State Licensure required.
  • Must be independently licensed in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Or if LPC-IT/LMAFT-IT, must complete hours requirements for licensure within 1 year of hire.
  • Must complete all licensure requirements for independent practice within 15 months of hire, with verification of submission of all licensure materials to DSPS.
  • If you are an LPCIT/LMAF-IT, you must have completed 1000 qualifying hours.
  • Master's degree in counseling or related mental health field.

  • Experience identifying resources within in-network and out-of-network insurance plans

  • Administrative and technological skills required to effectively document in an Electronic Health Record

Responsibilities

  • Provide access appointments over the phone and in person for students seeking services, including risk assessment, service evaluation, and collaborative decision making.
  • Facilitate the referral of students from UHS to mental health care and resources in the community, as clinically indicated.
  • Provide care management for students, including those involved in other UHS services.
  • Consult with UHS staff regarding resources and community referrals.
  • Assist students in understanding their insurance benefits or connecting them to insurance resources.
  • Assist students in obtaining access to resources including food, housing, and financial supports.
  • Provide follow up, support, and advocacy as needed to students who have been referred to the community.
  • Provide other services such as individual, couples, and/or group therapy; on-call; or other clinical services to meet agency need.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.
  • Serve as needed on multidisciplinary teams within UHS and on the campus.
  • Be involved in the development and implementation of programs and services related to access/triage and care management for students.
  • Collaborate with providers and staff in UHS units and with campus partners.
  • Follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA.
  • Attend staff, and workgroup meetings.
  • Attend Mental Health sponsored professional development activities.
  • Serves on multidisciplinary campus committees.
  • Provides counseling and/or information and referral services to faculty and staff.
  • Prepares presentations and outreach activities and facilitates student adjustment and success programs to promote a healthy campus.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal mental health issues and refers students to appropriate community resources.
  • Facilitates psycho-educational and process-oriented groups.
