About The Position

The Mental Health Specialist/Professional is responsible for rendering mental health services under the supervision of a LMHP and Program Director. This role involves providing individual Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) services to adolescent and adult clients, assisting them in developing treatment goals, and restoring/rehabilitating social and interpersonal skills. The professional will also focus on identifying and enhancing support networks, community awareness, coping strategies, and improving overall functioning in social environments. Additionally, the role includes helping clients improve self-management of psychiatric or emotional symptoms, identifying and responding to triggers that lead to functional impairments, and providing crisis intervention to ensure client safety. The position requires timely service documentation, attendance at agency meetings and trainings, and active participation in team service planning and review. The professional will also participate in the agency's Performance Improvement initiative, communicate effectively with staff regarding client concerns, assess and monitor client rehabilitation status, and identify/maintain weekly appointments for community resources.

Requirements

  • Valid Louisiana Drivers License
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Rehabilitation Services, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, or Human Growth and Development; OR Have a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree with a minor in Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Human services field is defined as an academic program with a curriculum content in which at least 70 percent of the required courses are in the study of behavioral health or human behavior

Responsibilities

  • Render individual Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) services to both adolescent and adult clients
  • Assist clients in developing goals for treatment
  • Assist clients in restoring, rehabilitating, and developing social and interpersonal skills
  • Identify, enhance, and establish support networks, community awareness, coping strategies, and improve functioning in the individuals social environments (home, work, school)
  • Help restore, rehabilitate, and support the development of daily living skills
  • Help improve each clients self-management of the negative effects of psychiatric or emotional symptoms
  • Assists clients in identifying, effectively responding to or avoiding identified precursors (triggers) that lead to functional impairments
  • Provide crisis intervention to ensure the safety of the client and others
  • Develop, sign and date service documentation within 24-hours of services
  • Ensure attendance at meetings, trainings, and supervision administered by the agency
  • Serving as a team member for service planning and actively participate in team coordination and review in an effort to ensure cohesiveness in services rendered on behalf of the agency for the population served
  • Participates in the agency's Performance Improvement initiative
  • Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with other clinical/administrative staff, as needed for client related concerns
  • Assess, review and/or monitor a recipient's status in relation to rehabilitation
  • Identify, report, and maintain weekly appointments for community resources
