Shift 12-hour days w/weekends Scheduled Weekly Hours 36 POSITION PURPOSE: The Mental Health Professional is a part of the multidisciplinary treatment team and works directly with mentally ill or intellectually and developmentally disabled patients. The Mental Health Professional plans, conducts, and supervises therapeutic activities designed to support clinical and behavioral stabilization under the direction of the Licensed Clinical Therapist.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mental health or psychology or related field required or a specialized Certificate in Substance Abuse or related area.
BLS Required within 30 days of hire.
Completion of advanced MOAB training within 90 days of hire.
Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.
Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient group (depending on unit).

Nice To Haves

Experience and direct contact with patients and individuals with behavioral health and special needs preferred.
Knowledge of principles and practices of therapeutic activity programs preferred.
Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and terminology.
Ability to plan, organize, direct, and participate in therapeutic activities required.
Strong operational knowledge in Microsoft Windows/Office products and the ability to learn the CGH order entry system.
Must meet the prescribed standards as determined by the department director.

Responsibilities

Assess patients’ needs using observation, medical records, and discussions with other healthcare professionals, patients’ families, and patients
Implements treatment plans to support stabilization of patients in behavioral health crisis.
Evaluates patients’ capabilities and prepares recommendations on placement of patients in activity programs.
Conducts, and supervises completion of group or individual recreational, social, and related therapeutic activities for psychiatric patients at CGH.
Participates in activities designed to ensure the safety of staff and patients on the unit.
Collaborates with the licensed therapist and medical staff on a holistic and individualized plan of care including discharge planning.
Demonstrates ability to display compassion, empathy, and calmness in all situations, including stressful interactions with patients/families/visitors/coworkers.
Intervenes appropriately and therapeutically in crisis situations using crisis intervention prevention techniques (i.e. MOAB).
Maintains a professional attitude and behavior which enhances the efficacy therapeutic environment.
Maintains good working relations among all unit personnel and other hospital employees through appropriate communication.
Supports an environment conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person.
