About The Position

This position serves on the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, providing evidence-based services in an intensive non-residential treatment and rehabilitative setting, adhering to the fidelity model. It offers a single point of responsibility for treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs for patients with Serious Mental Illness who require higher levels of community care and have not been adequately supported by lower-level options. The position is considered essential and may be recalled during crises, disasters, or emergencies. This role is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526. This position MAY be eligible for OMH Student Loan Repayment.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social sciences or a related field.
  • One (1) years' experience working with adults diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Supervisory experience is required in a mental health setting.
  • Must be a licensed or eligible for licensure in South Carolina.
  • Must be able to meet OMH credentialing requirements which include specific graduate course work including Psychopathology Course, Psychopathology Diagnostic Course, Clinical Assessment – Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) – or any related assessment course and Ethics Course – related to medical profession.
  • Must be able to show evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience maybe documented as practicum, internship or post-graduate experience.
  • Ability to lift up to five (5) pounds.
  • Ability to see, hear at a normal volume, stand, walk, bend, stoop and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Must be able to work during crisis/disaster/emergencies.
  • Must be able to be a part of the Assertive Community Treatment Team.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments plus track beneficiary's stages of change readiness and stages of treatment.
  • Ensure patients are seen in accordance with their needs and the team's treatment approaches are consistent with beneficiary's stages of change readiness.
  • Facilitate access to 12 step and community groups.
  • Provide direct services to patients using cognitive behavioral approaches and relapse prevention, with outreach and motivational interviewing techniques in earlier states of change readiness.
  • Enable the person-centered planning process for beneficiaries assigned to them.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, treatment team meetings and pursue professional development.
  • Serve as a consultant and educator to the ACT team members on the topic of integrated dual disorder treatment.
  • Complete documentation according to State, Federal, Local, OMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards.
  • Timely completion of the prior authorization process.
  • Complete all annual trainings regarding safety, clinical operations, cultural affairs and MAPS (Managing Agitated Patients).
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with individuals, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Presentation of comprehensive oral and written reports to peers, community members and senior leadership.
  • Identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community to accomplish agency and program objectives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychopathology family dynamics, group and family psychotherapy.
  • Provide 10-year DMV Driving Record.
  • Use a state vehicle for work related purposes.
  • Possess practical therapeutic knowledge of principles, methods, and counseling practices/procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Listen, understand and communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Work independently and be self-motivated.
