About The Position

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH), formerly the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, is transitioning to its new name to reflect its commitment to comprehensive, person-centered care for behavioral health needs. This position is an hourly role within the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit, classified as an Established Term Appointment (ETA). It is a temporary position for 10 months with possible extensions, designed to supplement the permanent workforce. The role may involve day, afternoon shifts, weekends, and holidays, with no guaranteed hours but a potential range of 25-80 hours per 2-week pay period based on availability and hospital needs. The position is located at 1101 Summit Road, Cincinnati, OH 45237. Requirements

  • License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code
  • MDS certification issued by ANNAC (i.e. American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination)
  • Qualifications, experience, education, and active disciplinary record will be reviewed.
  • Official transcripts are required for all post-secondary education, coursework, or degrees listed on the application.
  • Must submit an official transcript before receiving a formal employment offer.
  • Failure to provide transcripts within five (5) business days of the request will result in disqualification from further consideration.
  • Transcripts printed from the institution’s website will not be accepted.
  • DBH reserves the right to evaluate the academic validity of the degree-granting institution.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and provide education to patients regarding treatment plans, medications, and wellness strategies.
  • Observe, assess, and document patient behaviors, physical and mental health status, and responses to medications and interventions.
  • Monitor vital signs, treatment progress, and participation in therapeutic activities to support positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and progress.
  • Communicate significant changes in patient condition to the treatment team and assist with care planning.
  • Serve as an essential member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, contributing to a safe, supportive, and recovery-focused environment.
  • Conduct safety and observation rounds and assist with facilitating therapeutic groups and patient activities.
  • Support patients in developing coping skills, healthy behaviors, and treatment engagement.
