About The Position

Frontier Behavioral Health (FBH) is a non-profit organization with over 100 years of experience in Spokane, dedicated to providing evidence-based treatment for a wide range of behavioral health issues to adults, youth, and seniors. As a Trauma-Informed Care Organization, FBH believes in recovery and empowering clients to lead fulfilling lives. The Child and Family Services division offers various mental health and behavioral interventions to children, adolescents, and their families, which can be short-term or long-term depending on client needs. These services may include individual, group, and family therapy, case management, parenting support, psychological testing, psychiatric medication management, and crisis management. The Mental Health Engagement Specialist (MHES) plays a crucial role in supporting clients by collaborating with Peer Support Specialists, Mental Health Care Providers, and Mental Health Clinicians. MHES may manage a caseload of approximately 30 clients, providing clinical behavioral health services across key life domains such as health, education, employment, social/family, cultural, recreation, spirituality/religion, and housing. Services are delivered using a client-centered, trauma-informed approach, aligned with the clinician and recovery models, to help clients achieve their goals. Services are available to individuals of all ages in virtual, office, or community-based settings and include areas like sleep hygiene, mindfulness, emotional regulation, psychoeducation, community resource referrals, cognitive coping, behavioral activation, communication skills, administering mental health measures, care coordination, crisis assessment and intervention, and group facilitation. MHES also provide backup for unplanned client needs and manage incoming clients and orientations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Must apply for a Counselor Agency Affiliated – Registered credential from the WA State Department of Health within 30 days of hire.
  • Employees must have an unrestricted and valid driver’s license, active car insurance and must be willing to use their personal vehicle in the course of work.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience working with people with a psychiatric impairment.
  • Experience with crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Provide episodic, trauma-informed, person-centered counseling utilizing evidence-based practices within scope of practice.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with; clinical, administrative and support staff, community partners, clients, and family/natural supports.
  • Maintain client records and all other required documentation in a timely and confidential manner, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Be the primary care team member for clients who are in the process of enrollment or who are currently enrolled and receiving ongoing services.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate client treatment and orientation groups.
  • Provide services and support to clients prior to their first outpatient appointment.
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement safety plans, and provide crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed, including facilitating access to inpatient facilities for behavioral health care.
  • Assist clients with developing and implementing safety plans and facilitating access to inpatient facilities for behavioral health care.
  • Complete and review suicide and homicide risk assessments and when risk is indicated, review with a supervisor to determine the level of response needed to maintain the safety of the client or others and implement safety plans and interventions.
  • Provide care coordination services to clients including: Identify and include the client’s support network in care coordination. Assist clients in identifying and accessing resources. Provide employment and housing assistance as appropriate and necessary.
  • Comply with all state WAC requirements and FBH policies and procedures.
  • Perform FBH charting requirements, correspondence, HRIS, and other paperwork in a complete and timely manner.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, including regular supervision and weekly clinical staff meetings.
  • Operate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Requires travel to see clients in the community and travel between work sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.
