About The Position

The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for assisting participants and their families in addressing the social, psychological, developmental and economic impacts of addiction, recovery, illness, and mental health. As part of an interdisciplinary team, and to promote optimal health outcomes, the MHC completes comprehensive assessment and provides support and resources to identify and intervene regarding participants needs as they may relate to: mental health, trauma, environmental factors; abuse and; trauma; grief and loss; food, shelter and other basic needs.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Social Work/Human Services/ Behavioral Sciences or related field and two or more years’ experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work/Human Services/ Behavioral Sciences or related field and four years or more of clinical experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Two or more years of experience providing Behavioral Health services to individuals practicing/associated with “risky” behaviors to include drug and alcohol abuse and anti-social behavior involving law enforcement, Tribal Justice systems and institutional admissions.
Must demonstrate intermediate computer skills for word processing, database management and excel spreadsheets.
Strong written and verbal skills are required.
Licensed LPCC, LICSW, MSW, MFT or MHC professional in Washington State or equivalent.
Dual credentialed clinician (mental health & drug/alcohol).
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Must pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and CPS background inquiry before hire and every two years unless otherwise indicated.
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance. Driver’s License restrictions must not prohibit an employee from complying with the Tribe’s Vehicle Use Policy or operating GSA vehicles.
Must pass an FBI fingerprint background check upon employment.
Willing to attend trainings for professional development.
Mandated Reporting training must obtain within the first 30-days of hire.
Complete 30+ hours of sexual assault training within the first 6-months of hire.
Must maintain at least 12-hours of ongoing training annually that is approved.
Attend monthly meetings and trainings with staff as needed.
Work collaboratively and respectfully with clients, families, community, and Puyallup Tribal staff members contacting the center.
Must be willing to attend training, state and federal, following grant requirements.
Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
Strong knowledge of Native American culture and issues facing Native Americans.
Ability to maintain empathetic listening skills even when dealing with people who are upset or emotional.
Must ensure strict confidentiality of agency and client information.
Ability to work in a stressful job environment with difficult subject matter and keep emotions in check.
Sensitive to and familiar with the social/cultural needs of Tribal participants and their families.
Must maintain a strict level of confidentiality at all times.
Requires the ability to operate a personal computer, multi-line telephone, calculator, facsimile and photocopier.
Requires the ability to read, write, communicate, and interpret information accurately in English.
Requires the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Ability to sit for extended lengths of time.
Manual and finger dexterity for operation of personal computer and routine paperwork.
Lifting documents in excess of (25) pounds.

Responsibilities

Provides clinical mental health counseling and case management services.
Conducts assessments, coordinates services, and provides individual therapy to help participants make positive behavior changes.
Coordinates with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement a holistic treatment plan.
Identifies solutions to problems that serve barriers as to addiction, treatment, and related disease management.
Partner with community providers and other service providers in the community to ensure well-coordinated care.
Responsible for serving on the CFSR Quality Assurance Panel and introducing evidence-based mental health assessment, treatment and evaluation standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
