About The Position

The Mental Health Clinician will deliver direct outpatient counseling to clients. This position will supervise staff in a manner that allows for growth.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field with the ability to complete State approved continued education units as a Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) within 6 months of employment
  • Experience in substance abuse or mental health field including: Delivering direct therapeutic services (group and individual), Crisis intervention skills, Assessments, treatment planning and treatment team participation, Case management, Supervision, Utilization of tools, such as DSM 5 and ASAM criteria
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check
  • Adhere to the ethical guidelines of related profession and maintain current CEU’s needed for any acquired licensure
  • Ability to supervise staff
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and staff
  • Ability to utilize tools such as DSM 5 and ASAM with clients
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear therapeutic boundaries
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Punctuality reporting to work and in delivery of direct services
  • Able to work as a team member including accepting and providing supervision
  • Basic computer skills and fluid use of electronic communication tools
  • Basic Internet navigation skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and construct assessments for substance abuse problems and/or psychological/ psychiatric problems/disorders utilizing diagnostic criteria from the DSM 5, ICD 10 and ASAM.
  • Facilitate treatment groups using Set Free Alaska approved treatment curricula, emphasizing confidentiality and client rights.
  • Establish and implement individualized treatment plans using a Strengths Based Model, involving client participation and conducting reviews.
  • Prepare and conduct individual and family counseling sessions, structuring them according to client needs, goals, strengths, and limitations.
  • Participate in an interdisciplinary team to address clinical concerns, providing case conceptualization.
  • Assist in detecting "at risk" clients and developing prevention plans, evaluating crisis situations and applying interventions.
  • Administer UA's and breathalyzers as needed.
  • Provide case management, including coordination of care, referrals, and collateral involvement with other providers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation of assessments, treatment notes, treatment plan updates, and discharge summaries, complying with state or federal guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other local agencies, including Department of Corrections, Office of Children’s Services, and Therapeutic Courts.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of program curricula and follow SFA policies and procedures for curriculum changes.
