About The Position

The Los Angeles LGBT Center is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III to join their Mental Health Services department. This full-time, non-exempt position is responsible for conducting individual, couple, and group counseling, documenting client progress, and utilizing a short-term treatment model. The role also involves handling on-duty walk-ins, crisis calls, and providing clinical supervision to unlicensed staff and interns. The Center's mission is to build a world where LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society, and this role contributes to providing free or low-cost services to the LGBTQ community.

Requirements

Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, or professional clinical counseling.
Licensed and registered with Board of Behavioral Sciences as LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC.
Licensed in applicable field of practice for a minimum of 2 years.
Minimum 4 years post graduate counseling experience (e.g., residential care, social services, child welfare services, general counseling, chemical dependency treatment, juvenile justice, youth services).
Ability to work as a team member dedicated to generating resources/services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgender communities.
Proven ability to work under direct supervision.
Ability to relate in a non-judgmental and respectful manner to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, or people experiencing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills.
Computer skills and knowledge including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.

Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

Responsibilities

Conduct individual, couple and group counseling services for clients and document progress in the client’s record immediately following the session.
Utilize short term model in treatment planning, with supervisor concurrence for extensions beyond the short term model protocol.
Serve on-duty for designated hours each week to handle walk-ins (crisis or not), general information, and crisis telephone calls.
Conduct intakes and prepare the required documentation.
Participate in the multi-disciplinary Clinical Case Conference, presenting assigned cases.
Make appropriate referrals to internal and external services (e.g., psychiatric evaluation) and follow up to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care.
Participate and/or take a leadership role in the Quality Improvement process.
Meet Performance Metrics such as weekly/monthly visit targets.
Adhere to the Utilization Management protocol for timely and appropriate client service.
Complete all documentation in a timely, legible, and thorough manner, submitting client records at the end of each business day, and notify supervisor and Administrative Support staff of changes in appointment schedule.
Participate in clinical supervision groups and/or individual supervision on a weekly basis.
Attend mandatory monthly in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
Assist in the coordination of the work of paraprofessional volunteers and Mental Health Clinicians I and II.
Participate with supervisor and/or members of the MHS Management Team in program planning, program evaluation, dissemination activities, and training.
Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
