About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Mental Health Associate at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital’s Behavioral Health Unit in Norfolk, Virginia. This is a Full-Time Night position. The Mental Health Associate performs direct and indirect patient care activities for mental health patients, including technical duties in support of the delivery of nursing care under the supervision of an RN. The role involves leading and co-facilitating educational and activity groups, and assisting with milieu management to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Sentara offers both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services to patients 18 and older who are in crisis due to mental illness, emotional distress, or destructive behavior patterns. Because our treatment facilities are located within local hospitals, patients have access to the full range of both psychiatric and medical care. This is especially helpful for patients experiencing symptoms that are confusing and impact their physical health. Requirements

Bachelor’s Level Degree
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI
Crisis Prevention Intervention training within 15 days of hire
One year of Behavioral Health work experience
Knowledge of basic medical terminology
Knowledge of abnormal human behavior
