About The Position

Hampton Behavioral Health Center is a 120-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital in Westampton, New Jersey, offering advanced behavioral health and diagnostic treatment services for adults, adolescents, and older adults through inpatient and outpatient programs. The Mental Health Associate (MHA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Clinical/Nursing Administration. This role requires energetic individuals passionate about healthcare and healing, who understand basic psychology and human behaviors, and are interested in providing direct patient care to foster a therapeutic milieu. The MHA will assist and supervise patients' activities of daily living, encouraging appropriate behavior and intervening when necessary. Responsibilities include assembling and escorting patients to meals, programs, court, and clinics, requiring a proactive and compassionate yet firm approach. Success in this role depends on strong documentation, organization, and time management skills. The MHA will meet with assigned patients daily and provide feedback to the treatment team on patient progress and adherence to the Nursing Care Plan. This is a Full Time position with evening shifts (3:00pm - 11:00pm) four days a week, with opportunities to cover other shifts and pick up overtime.

Requirements

  • B.S. in health related field with one year of psychiatric experience, preferably in an inpatient setting; or two years of experience in a psychiatric setting with evidence of participation in continuing education related to mental health preferred.
  • Psychiatric inpatient experience for Adults, Adolescents and Dual populations preferred.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid, Verbal De-escalation and Handle with Care Certifications which will be provided by the Hospital.

  • Preferably in an inpatient setting.
  • Evidence of participation in continuing education related to mental health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered nurse and Clinical/Nursing Administration.
  • Encourage appropriate behavior and intervene when needed to prevent inappropriate behavior on the units.
  • Assemble and escort patients for prompt arrival to meals, programs, court, and other designated activities.
  • Provide feedback to the treatment team on patients' improvements and progress in implementing the Nursing Care Plan strategies.
  • Meet with assigned patients daily.
