About The Position

The Mental Health Aide Relief position involves working assigned shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight, to serve the needs of consumers. This role requires excellent understanding of training methods for working with the mentally ill, the ability to lift up to fifty pounds, and proficiency in operating mechanical devices for safe consumer handling. The aide will be responsible for documenting client activities, providing personal care, maintaining facility supplies and cleanliness, conducting client trainings, preparing meals, and staying informed through various communication channels. The position also emphasizes adherence to organizational policies, including the Code of Conduct, HIPAA, security programs, attendance, punctuality, and safety standards. Identifying opportunities for service improvement is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

Must be able to work effectively in a group situation.
Must be able to work within the organization to serve the needs of consumers.
Excellent understanding of training methods used in working with the mentally ill required.
Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to complete training to operate/assist with a Hoya lift and other mechanical devices for safe handling of consumers.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, consumers and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift.
Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be knowledgeable of and abide by HIPAA regulations with regard to protected health information.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with consumers with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
One (1) year experience in a mental health setting preferred.
Maintain current TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI.

Responsibilities

Work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
Document BLS groups and all clinical notes in accordance with agency policies and within 24 hours.
Bathe, feed, dress, and ambulate clients to ensure proper grooming.
Dispose of expired food as directed by company policy.
Maintain supplies for facility and clients.
Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down surfaces.
Conduct client trainings as assigned by supervisor.
Cook and provide meals according to diet and posted menu.
Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs.
Maintain the confidential nature of all consumer and Organization related activities.
Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy.
Comply with all standards related to safety and health.
Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
