About The Position

The Mental Health Aide Relief position involves working assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays, to provide direct care and support to consumers. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a group, and a strong understanding of training methods for the mentally ill. Responsibilities include documenting client information, assisting with daily living activities, maintaining facility supplies and cleanliness, conducting client trainings, preparing meals, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies, including HIPAA and safety standards. The position also involves identifying opportunities for service quality improvement.

Requirements

Must be able to work effectively in a group situation.
Must be able to work within the organization to serve the needs of consumers.
Excellent understanding of training methods used in working with the mentally ill required.
Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to complete training to operate/assist with a Hoya lift and other mechanical devices for safe handling of consumers.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, consumers and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift.
Physical presence onsite is essential.
Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with consumers with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
One (1) year experience in a mental health setting preferred.
Current TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI.

Responsibilities

Work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
Document BLS groups and all clinical notes in accordance with agency policies and within 24 hours.
Bathe, feed, dress, and ambulate clients to ensure proper grooming.
Dispose of expired food as directed by company policy.
Maintain supplies for facility and clients.
Perform general cleaning duties of the facility.
Conduct client trainings as assigned by supervisor.
Cook and provide meals according to diet and posted menu.
Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs.
Maintain the confidential nature of all consumer and Organization related activities.
Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy.
Comply with all standards related to safety and health.
Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
