About The Position

The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and statement of purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.

  • Practical knowledge and application of biblical principles and discipleship.
  • Ability and willingness to share the Gospel and actively participate in all ministry activities of Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrates a sincere desire to serve Him.
  • Serves as a consistent and authentic witness for Christ in both conduct and communication.
  • Exhibits spiritual maturity consistent with evangelical biblical standards and KGM's employee handbook.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Ministry, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, and trauma preferred.
  • Biblical counseling training or certification preferred; willingness to pursue additional training and development required.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture that is based on grace and affirms and advances KGM’s vision and purpose.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and accountability for all Men's Ministries, including: Emergency Services, Next Steps Program, Men's Family Shelter.
  • Ensure that all Men's Ministry programs, services, and staff align with KGM's mission of life transformation through the power of Christ.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, accountability, and professional development for all Men's Shelter staff, including leads, case managers, frontline staff, volunteers, and program participants serving within the department.
  • Develop, implement, and continually evaluate policies, procedures, and programming that promote safety, operational excellence, guest engagement, and transformational outcomes.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate departmental key performance indicators, program outcomes, and guest success metrics to ensure effective stewardship of ministry resources and mission impact.
  • Lead the Men's Ministry team's efforts to move guests from crisis to stability, from stability to growth, and ultimately toward life transformation through intentional relationships, case management, discipleship, and programming.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of all Men's Ministry programs, ensuring consistency, accountability, quality, and excellence in service delivery.
  • Ensure that all residential environments are safe, orderly, clean, and conducive to personal responsibility and community living by overseeing room inspections, facility standards, guest expectations, and daily operations.
  • Encourage eligible Emergency Services guests to transition into the Next Steps Program and support Next Steps participants as they prepare for continued growth through New Life | New Hope or other individualized pathways.
  • Meet regularly with all direct reports to coach, develop, evaluate performance, and ensure guests are progressing toward individualized goals.
  • Foster a culture of biblical discipleship by incorporating biblical truth, grace, accountability, and encouragement into all interactions with guests and staff.
  • Promote a healthy team culture by recognizing growth, providing constructive feedback, addressing performance concerns, and utilizing progressive accountability when necessary.
  • Conduct regular departmental meetings to provide communication, collaboration, training, and ongoing staff development.
  • Collaborate with other KGM departments to ensure guests receive coordinated, holistic care and support.
  • Develop and maintain accurate reports, documentation, statistics, and departmental records, providing regular updates to executive leadership.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance evaluations, and succession planning for Men's Ministry staff.
  • Identify, mentor, and develop future ministry leaders through intentional coaching, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring sound financial stewardship and responsible use of ministry resources.
  • Participate in all required organizational meetings, trainings, ministry activities, and Redemptive Counsel meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
