About The Position

Drake University's Athletics Department competes in the Missouri Valley Conference at the NCAA Division I level. Bulldog student-athletes thrive in the classroom and their respective field of play. The Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistant will assist staff with practice and competition operations, team travel plans, and on campus recruitment of prospective student-athletes. The Graduate Assistant will also be responsible for assisting with administrative duties and Student-Athlete wellness. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution
  • Enrollment or acceptance in a Drake University graduate program
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Collegiate basketball experience as a Student-Athlete or coach

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach and assistant coaches in setting up the facility for practices, games and opponent practices.
  • Oversee the organization and supervision of student managers and practice players. Meet with them to ensure the support of the program and monitor attendance to daily practice sessions.
  • Update and distribute practice plans for staff, coaches, visitors, fans, etc.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including but not limited to: facilities reservations, community service functions, event planning, and donation requests, etc.
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication related to internal (student athletes, strength and conditioning staff, athletic training staff, coaching staff, athletics staff) and external (fans, parents, prospects, campus community, etc.)
  • Contribute to a positive and energetic working environment within the Drake Athletics Department and University.
  • Other duties as assigned.
