About The Position

The Memory Care Activities Assistant enriches residents’ lives by helping create a joyful, engaging environment where seniors feel seen, heard, and valued. The role supports people experiencing Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related dementia, helping each resident live to their maximum cognitive and physical ability. The assistant works closely with the care team to support residents’ emotional, social, and holistic needs and creates age-appropriate activities suited to different physical and cognitive abilities. This is a part-time opportunity at Pines of DeKalb. The community may provide the required nursing assistant training.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Successful completion of a State-approved Nursing Assistant training and competency evaluation program or a State-approved CNA competency evaluation program. The community may provide this training.
Ability to connect with residents and understand their emotional and social needs.
Passion for working with people experiencing Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related dementia.
Ability to work toward shared goals and cooperate with the care team.
Time-management skills to balance schedules, residents, and activity preparation.
Creativity in developing activities for differing physical and cognitive abilities.

Responsibilities

Support residents’ emotional and social needs through a warm, patient, and connecting presence.
Help residents experiencing Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related dementia live to their maximum cognitive and physical ability.
Work cooperatively with the care team to support residents holistically.
Balance daily schedules, multiple residents, and activity preparation.
Create engaging, age-appropriate activities suited to residents’ different physical and cognitive abilities.
