About The Position

The Morton Arboretum, a renowned nonprofit organization focused on tree conservation, is seeking a temporary Membership Sales Assistant. This role is crucial for providing excellent customer service to members and visitors, actively promoting and selling various membership levels. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the Arboretum's mission, skilled in building relationships, and adept at communicating the value of membership with genuine enthusiasm. This position is part of a dedicated front-facing team contributing to the organization's success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ years previous retail sales or customer service experience strongly preferred.
  • Effective customer service and communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications is beneficial.
  • Experience using database software, such as Salesforce, and point-of-sale systems preferred.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a consistently courteous and patient manner and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to establish rapport and build relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Flexibility and proactive problem solving.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented to ensure that all work reflects well on the Arboretum.
  • A commitment to, and ability to effectively convey, the Arboretum’s mission with genuine passion.
  • Willingness to continually learn about the programs and mission.

  • Spanish language literacy is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Sell new and gift memberships, renew existing memberships, and upgrade renewing memberships on-site.
  • Potentially staff the Welcome Cart and assist at off-site special events.
  • Greet visitors in a friendly and attentive manner, addressing their needs promptly.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Arboretum membership details, general information, available resources, and desk procedures.
  • Clearly communicate all membership benefits accurately and enthusiastically to prospective and renewing members.
  • Inform potential members about special incentives, offers from direct mail campaigns, or special on-site/day-of promotions.
  • Receive and professionally address member concerns, complaints, and compliments.
  • Direct member and non-member inquiries to the appropriate resources, manage member expectations, and resolve problems promptly.
  • Process membership transactions according to established procedures.
  • Process payments, accurately open, close, and balance sales per established procedures.
  • Prepare, review, and submit sales results and a shift report at the end of each work shift.
  • File end-of-day reports (EOD) as needed.
  • Become proficient with hardware and software associated with the Member Services Desk, including basic Salesforce, credit card machines, email (internal and external), Microsoft Office, Google Applications, and the point-of-sale system.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new membership employees.
  • Collaborate with volunteers as needed.
  • Attend department meetings, trainings, and other required opportunities.
  • Contribute ideas for promotions, events, membership levels, premiums, incentives, and campaigns.
  • Demonstrate alignment with the Arboretum’s employee core values: inclusivity, ownership, teamwork, continuous learning, and making the Arboretum exceptional.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
