About The Position

TakeAction Minnesota is seeking a Membership Organizer to communicate, organize, and fundraise with new, current, and prospective members. This role is crucial for onboarding members into the organization's vision, activities, and opportunities for involvement, whether as general members or within specific bases. The Membership Organizer will play a key part in orienting new members and aligning their engagement with campaign, narrative, and fundraising goals, especially during day-to-day operations and rapid response moments.

Requirements

  • Excellent short-form writer and editor.
  • Strong political lens with a clear understanding of neoliberalism and the ability to create messages and digital content polarizing against the status quo.
  • Natural curiosity about people and the ability to build rapport across lines of difference; able to both listen deeply and engage boldly with strangers and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice, and to advancing progressive political change through building power.
  • Willingness to offer ideas, receive feedback, adapt plans, and actively contribute to solutions.
  • Reliable follow-through and strong communication skills.
  • Openness to being challenged and to challenging others in service of collective growth and leadership development.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Google Workspace, Signal, email, spreadsheets); interest in learning new tools and technology that support organizing.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needs require.
  • Some experience—paid, volunteer, or school-based—in community organizing, political campaigns, labor organizing, or other collective action efforts.

  • Experience working with Airtable, EveryAction + VAN, and mass texting tools.
  • Experience evaluating the success and impact of mass email and text communication.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the email calendar, draft and send approved emails, maintain welcome and re-engagement series, and support campaign, organizing, and fundraising goals through effective member communications.
  • Track email performance and metrics, and test strategies to increase engagement and grow email lists.
  • Implement texting communications by scheduling and sending approved messages through our short code and ThruText.
  • Track texting performance and metrics, and test strategies to increase engagement and grow lists.
  • Maintain announcements-only text threads, vet members, share campaign updates, and connect members to action opportunities.
  • Keep the website up-to-date for current and prospective members by writing and updating content, translating email content into blog updates, and maintaining the in-the-press section.
  • Ensure website visitors can easily donate, act, and subscribe to texts and emails.
  • Effectively welcome new email subscribers and donors and onboard them into base teams.
  • Support organizers and leaders in preparing onboarding and absorption meetings and trainings.
  • Implement grassroots and member fundraising strategies, including donor stewardship and direct fundraising asks via digital, phone, and events.
  • Lead the individual ticket sales plan for the annual fundraiser.
  • Support and equip staff and leaders to engage in fundraising campaigns.
  • Work with the Data Manager and Organizing team to maintain accurate records of members, events, donations, and leadership development.
  • Handle members' financial contributions in line with policies and procedures, including updating credit cards and sending thank yous.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
