About The Position

Special is a new kind of holding company focused on transforming critical American industries with AI. We acquire and operate businesses that form the backbone of the American economy and use our proprietary operating system, SpecialOS, to enhance their efficiency. We are backed by prominent investors and our team is small, technical, and systems-oriented, with a strong emphasis on individual contribution, work ethic, and clear communication. This role involves sourcing, evaluating, and closing acquisitions of businesses with $1–10M of annual EBITDA. It's a high-ownership position on a lean team, with involvement in all stages of the acquisition process, from initial contact to closing.

Requirements

A track record sourcing, evaluating, and closing business acquisitions, ideally in the $2–10M EBITDA range.
3 years of experience in healthcare investment banking or 1 year of experience in private equity
Deep expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence.
Strong feel for Main Street services businesses and the owners who run them.

Responsibilities

Source and build a pipeline of acquisition targets within our buy box, through proprietary outreach and our sourcing partners
Run introductory calls with owners — build rapport, qualify fit, and represent Special as a partner of choice against traditional private equity.
Lead due diligence end-to-end: financial analysis, business operations, customer contracts, and legal and regulatory review.
Build and own the financial models — valuation, deal structuring (debt vs. equity), and the post-acquisition value-creation case.
Drive deals from initial sourcing through close, keeping momentum across owners, lenders, and internal stakeholders.
