About The Position

Perplexity is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer for its Cloud Infrastructure team. The team operates production infrastructure supporting the company's consumer, Computer, API, and enterprise products, including Kubernetes clusters across a multi-account AWS estate, private networks connecting cloud providers, and storage for user data and agentic workloads. The role owns compute, networking, and storage at scale, with responsibility for keeping production reliable as the products and workloads evolve. The engineer operates and improves the infrastructure foundation, including EKS clusters, AWS networking, storage systems, and infrastructure-as-code workflows. The role also covers reliability engineering, incident response, disaster recovery, capacity planning, cost efficiency, and automation that helps engineering teams provision and manage infrastructure through self-service workflows.

Requirements

  • Deep AWS expertise, including VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, ELB, Route 53, S3, and EBS, with understanding of service limits, failure modes, and costs.
  • Production Kubernetes experience at scale, including cluster upgrades, CNI, CoreDNS, autoscalers such as Karpenter, and node debugging.
  • Mastery of Terraform, including designing module structures, managing state across many accounts, and performing large refactors and imports without production downtime.
  • Strong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, and routing.
  • Ability to write production-quality automation, tooling, and controllers in Python, Go, or Rust.
  • Fluency with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana, and ability to turn metrics, logs, and traces into useful SLOs and alerts.
  • Track record of leading production incidents and converting root-cause analysis into durable fixes.
  • Ability to own problems end-to-end and work effectively when the path forward is not defined.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-region active-active or failover architectures and disaster-recovery programs with defined recovery targets.
  • Experience with proxies, service meshes, and kernel-level networking, such as Envoy, Istio, Cilium, or eBPF.
  • Experience with GitOps and progressive delivery tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
  • Experience in enterprise and compliance environments, including single-tenant or BYOC deployments, KMS/BYOK, and SOC 2 or similar controls.
  • Experience running stateful systems in production, such as Postgres, Redis, Vespa, or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with multi-cloud or neocloud operations, such as GCP or CoreWeave.
  • FinOps experience, including cost attribution, Savings Plans and reservations, and reducing infrastructure costs without compromising reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Own the availability, latency, and cost of production compute, networking, and storage for Perplexity's consumer, Computer, API, and enterprise products.
  • Operate and upgrade EKS clusters, tuning scheduling, autoscaling, node lifecycle, DNS, and service networking for bursty, growing workloads.
  • Design and operate VPC architectures, Transit Gateway and PrivateLink connectivity, load balancing, DNS, and egress across accounts, regions, and cloud providers.
  • Own storage systems including EBS, S3, DynamoDB, managed databases, and caches, covering performance, durability, backups, and tested restores.
  • Manage infrastructure through Terraform and CI/CD; build reusable modules and guardrails that make changes reviewable, repeatable, and safe to roll back.
  • Define SLOs, create actionable alerts, design for zone and regional failure, and run game days and disaster-recovery exercises.
  • Lead production incident response, drive incidents to resolution, write blameless postmortems, and implement durable fixes.
  • Own capacity planning, quotas, reservations, and cost efficiency to support product launches and traffic spikes.
  • Build tools and increasingly agent-driven workflows to automate provisioning, upgrades, and remediation for engineering teams.
