About The Position

Tutor Intelligence is a robotics research and deployment company that builds robot hardware and artificial intelligence. The company develops robots such as Sonny, a semi-humanoid robot, and Cassie, which moves boxes, pallets, and bulk goods. Tutor robots are manufactured at scale and operate as a network, using the fleet’s learned experience to improve robot AI. Founded at MIT and headquartered in Watertown, Massachusetts, Tutor is a full-stack team that designs and manufactures hardware, trains models, works with customers, and maintains a U.S. robot fleet. As a Member of Technical Staff, you will lead the design and implementation of critical robotics software across motion planning, real-time control, perception, optimization systems, tooling, and robot infrastructure. You will influence technical direction, mentor engineers, drive system architecture across the stack from embedded systems to cloud services, and champion best practices in software and robotics engineering. The work is intended to affect physical-world operations, including production floors, and address technical challenges in robotics and automation at scale.

Requirements

  • Exceptional programming skills with deep experience across multiple languages and systems.
  • A track record of designing and owning large, complex software systems.
  • Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers.
  • Comfort working across the stack from low-level robot control to cloud services.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for solving challenging problems that bridge software and robotics.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience with Python and prior experience programming robots, such as with ROS or other robotics frameworks.
  • Experience with manipulation, motion planning, optimization, or perception.
  • Experience with infrastructure and developer tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
  • Background in hardware/software integration and real-time systems.
  • Experience scaling robotics systems in production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of critical robotics software across motion planning, real-time control, perception, optimization systems, tooling, and robot infrastructure.
  • Influence technical direction.
  • Mentor other engineers.
  • Drive system architecture across the stack from embedded systems to cloud services.
  • Champion best practices in software and robotics engineering.

Benefits

  • Fully employer-covered health insurance.
  • A managed 401(k).
