Member of Technical Staff - Switch Systems Test Engineer

Coherent Corp.Fremont, CA
$181,750 - $254,438Onsite

About The Position

This role involves assisting in the standardization and implementation of Switch-based DVT (XDVT) test coverage for new optical transceiver products (800G, 1.6T, and future 3.2T). The position requires coordinating global XDVT activities, advising on failure analysis, and collaborating with design teams across different R&D sites. The engineer will also assist module design and QA teams with optical transceiver evaluation, optimization, and debugging on switches. A key aspect of the role is direct interface with Switch-vendors and DSP vendors for co-debugging challenging link flap issues. The engineer will co-develop special module tuning/optimization algorithms and establish a Switch-based knowledge base covering switch study, product evaluation methodologies, and customer system issues. Regular interaction with Switch test engineers and various switch vendors for co-debugging and feature requests is expected. Light travel to other sites may be required to facilitate platform implementation and standardize XDVT execution.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 9+ years of relevant industry experience, or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in optical transceiver validation, system-level debugging, product characterization, and cross-functional technical collaboration.
  • Strong laboratory optical and electrical measurement skills required.
  • Hands-on experience in optical test instruments, such as DCA, OSA, BERT, etc., is a Must.
  • Strong data analysis skills with SQL, JMP, MS Excel.
  • Strong skills in communication, presentation and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in data center networking, optical communications, or high-speed interconnect technologies is strongly preferred.
  • Strong programming skills with Python is preferred.
  • Familiar with or capable of quick learning on Switch OS, such as Sonic by MSFT, Cumulus by Nvidia and VEOS by Arista.
  • Experience in link performance optimization on Switch rack system in data center is a Plus.
  • Basic knowledge in IEEE standard in terms of test specs and test methodologies.
  • Solid knowledge in PCBA, RF and Fiber optics is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the standardization and implementation of Switch-based DVT (XDVT) test coverage for all new 800G, 1.6T and future 3.2T optical transceiver products.
  • Continuously define new test coverage and streamline the XDVT submission, verification and data reporting process.
  • Coordinate on the global XDVT activities.
  • Assist/advise on the XDVT failure analysis working closely with different design teams from all R/D sites.
  • Assist module design team/QA team for urgent optical transceiver evaluation, optimization and debugging on switches.
  • Directly interface with Switch-vendor and DSP vendor for co-debugging on challenging link flap issues.
  • Co-develop the special module tuning/optimization algorithm on Switch-based setup for LPO and LRO products.
  • Establish the Switch-based knowledge base in three areas: Switch study/characterization, Switch-based product evaluation/optimization methodologies, and Issues found on customer switch systems.
  • Work closely with Switch test engineer to bring up the new types of switches.
  • Have regular interaction with various switch vendors for co-debugging and feature request.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Switch-based test platform and standardize the XDVT execution.
