About The Position

TypeSafe is an AI lab developing System One Models, combining the reasoning capabilities of large language models with the reliability of code to build dependable AI for production. The company describes itself as a small, fast team backed by an $870 million Series A led by a16z. Its first model, Jev, launched in September 2026. This is an open-ended opportunity for entrepreneurial, technical builders across engineering disciplines. The role has not yet been scoped; candidates are invited to introduce themselves if they believe they can contribute to TypeSafe’s mission. The team works fully in person at its San Francisco office near Embarcadero station. TypeSafe emphasizes ownership, strategic thinking, first-principles problem solving, craftsmanship, collaboration, emotional honesty, and real-world impact.

Requirements

At least 5 years of professional expertise in high-performing teams, including in shifting and ambiguous environments.
A strong area of expertise in at least one domain or skillset, with well-rounded ability in essential others and self-awareness about the distinction.
Ability to take complete ownership, think strategically about goals, and define what needs to happen to achieve them rather than focusing only on tasks or tickets.
Ability to solve problems using both first-principles reasoning and lived experience.
Understanding of and engagement with the AI industry, including the capabilities and limitations of current-generation large language models.
Care deeply about TypeSafe’s mission and be driven to translate it into real-world impact.
