•$160,000 - $800,000•Hybrid

About The Position

MatX is developing vertically integrated, full-stack solutions spanning silicon, systems, hardware, and software to train and run large machine-learning workloads. Its mission is to make advanced AI models run as efficiently as physics allows. This role focuses on systems-oriented ML research, including training and optimizing large language models for MatX hardware, evaluating model quality, and building distributed infrastructure for training and inference. The position also contributes an ML perspective to hardware architecture and supports hardware/ML co-design through experimentation and RTL prototypes, working with other teams to validate numerics. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and work from MatX's Mountain View offices Tuesday through Thursday. The role requires access to information subject to U.S. export controls; employment is contingent on being able to perform the job in compliance with those laws without obtaining an export-control license. This is a full-time position.

Requirements

  • Strong research track record in LLMs, demonstrated through publications and/or shipped, open-sourced research.
  • PhD or equivalent experience.
  • Depth in at least one of reinforcement learning, quantization, or attention/architecture, including long-context methods.
  • Excellent software engineering skills, including building and scaling distributed training/inference codebases.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must work from MatX's Mountain View offices Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Must be able to perform job functions in compliance with U.S. export-control laws without obtaining a license from U.S. export-control authorities.
